For both of these sports I have coaches. For running, I used to have a person coach who coaches me remotely, and now I use nike’s online coaching which is available on nike’s website. But this takes a fair amount of discipline in order to follow the regiment. Last year my online nike coach helped me to finish the 21km race at a good time and in good form.
I have a tennis coach who taught me how to hold a tennis racquet properly when I first started and now to play properly.
Why have a coach if I am not a professional athlete? Well, I know that having a coach will firstly lead me on the right path towards what I want to achieve through these sports. And secondly a right coach will teach me the tools to achieve this. Thirdly, having a coach stretches me to tap into my potential, constantly pushing me.
People are often surprised to hear that I work with coaches. Well, I do not believe that anyone can do it alone or are ‘self made’. Perhaps they are able to up to a certain extent, but to go further one certainly needs a mentor or coach.
In a private aspect of my life, I was without a coach/mentor for about 3 and 1/2 years and I know that I remained stagnated during that time. So I got a mentor and up and again I went, so easy!
To be put on a stretcher to move further in any area of life is really a core exercise. It is not just a warm up exercise. Because if there was no one there to help stretch you, can you really stretch yourself and become accountable? Most people just slip down the very slippery slope of success or at most remain stagnated, fingers just clawing at the side of the slope just to hang on.
