After being a teacher/coach for over 10 years on helping other people find a purpose driven life, I have realized that there is one key lesson that almost everyone has to learn in order to experience greater satisfaction in what they do!
The answer will surprise you.
The key lesson is HOW TO SELL.
When there is a greater purpose for doing what you do, you know that there is no way you can do it all by yourself. You need a group of people or an entire village to come on board with the same idea as you, in order to fulfil this purpose.
To do this, you have to sell the idea. And this is a lesson that most people avoid doing.
The main reason is mostly because most people are afraid of being rejected. Most people that I have come across, friends, colleagues or clients alike all experience the same irrational fear of being rejected if they have to sell something.
I believe this fear of rejection stems from early childhood or perhaps it is a bad gene embedded in our DNA when we first took on the idea of duality.
And if we look at the people who truly lived a purpose driven life, they sold their ideas openly but then they were also crucified for them. So many of us do not have the courage to stand up for what we believe. We rather keep quiet and live a mediocre life, without truly fulfilling our purpose.
How then do we overcome this BIG lesson of the fear of selling in order to live a more purpose driven life?
- We need to get the idea out of our heads that we are actually selling anything (even if we are monetizing our services)
- We must know that receiving money for what we provide to people is an exchange of energy that gives value to other people. The higher the price, the greater the value. Ultimately, the price tag is only a number. The true value is the transformational process that people experience.
- As much as we may be providing a service to others as part of our purpose driven life, we personally also go through deep transformational challenges that may look easy to the outside world. I like to see being ‘paid’ as a form of compensation because without us going through the process, the people we serve would not have a map to use.
So there. Overcome lessons of the fear of selling and your path to a purpose driven life will become much more powerful.
